The goal of the Canada Greener Homes Initiative 2021 is to make Canadian houses more energy efficient. Lower electricity bills and a better comfort are what awaits you. Among others, with better insulation, more efficient heating, more efficient windows or by adding solar panels.
Almost all the types of houses are eligible to this program. The detached single-family house, the semi-detached house, the townhouse, the mobile home, the rooming houses, the four-season cottage, the duplex and the triplex. If you live in, or if you own a multi-unit residential home with a maximum of 3 out of ground storeys and with a maximum ground imprint of 600m2, you could also benefit from this grant to proceed with energy renovations.
Where are your energy losses located? What renovations will bring the best energetic yield? Which projects should be prioritized? To answer these questions, the energetic assessment consists of a visit from a Rénoclimat evaluation consultant to your home. He will look around your house and will analyze all the aspects liked to the energy efficiency. With the help of a leak detection test, the consultant will establish your house’s ÉnerGuide score and will identify the renovation priorities. This evaluation which is worth 600$ is free.
Insulating your house for a better energy efficiency
Optimizing the building envelope is always a good investment. This is why you can get up to 6000$ to insulate the attic, the exterior walls, the exposed floor, the basement, the foundation or the crawlspace.
According to the leak detection test made by the ÉnerGuide consultant, you could receive up to 1000$ to seal the leaks and make your house more airtight.
If your windows and doors were installed in the 1960s, it’s probably time to change for ENERGY STAR certified models which offer the best energy efficiency on the market. You could receive up to 5000$ to replace them.
Adding a smart thermostat will improve your comfort at home and will decrease your electricity bill by lowering the heating when you’re not at home, or during the night. By combining this energetic improvement to another, you could receive up to 50$.
